Recently my hooman, Jeff, met a cat similar to me – he LOVED to scratch furniture. What was interesting was that cat was also a Maine Coon, just like me. It got me thinking that many of you may not know how awesome the Maine Coon breed (including myself) really is. Read more for some fun facts about Maine Coons.

We originate from Maine, hence the name. We are the official cat of the state and were widely revered for our mousing skills and “survival of the fittest” characteristics. We thrive in the harsh winters and varied seasons, making my home of upstate NY the purr-fect place for me.

We are known as the gentle giants. This is because while we can be quite large in size, we are sweet natured, affectionate, outgoing and adaptable. Maine Coons are the largest of cat breeds, with the biggest one of us measuring in at 4ft long and weighing 25lbs. Our fur is long and silky, with cute little extra tufts on our ears, paws and tail.

We’re super fun! In addition to being beautiful and regal, we are one of the most fun cat breeds to have around. We love interactive play and will be silly with our humans all day long. Many people compare our personality to dogs, as we will greet you in the morning when you wake up or at the door when you come home from work. Don’t worry though, we take the comparison as a compliment. Even though we share in being fun like dogs, we are still the superior animal. =^..^=
